Matt Chicavich
Coach Matt “Chico” Chicavich was raised in Queens, where soccer was an essential part of life, and he was surrounded by different cultures. His earliest soccer memories involved playing on dirt fields with immigrant parents shouting directions in different languages from the sidelines. He began his soccer travel career at Auburndale SC and was then recruited to play for Albertson’s flagship team, which quickly established the club as competitors on the national scene. His academic achievements and soccer skills made him a top recruit for several NCAA Division 1 programs. Despite undergoing knee surgery during his senior year of high school, he was able to compete as a scholarship athlete at Fordham University.
Coach Chico immediately started his coaching career after college, working at various soccer camps in the NYC area. In 2006, he began coaching at Chaminade High School, where he still coaches today. He has held various roles such as Varsity 1st assistant and JV Head Coach. During his tenure, the program has won 7 NY State Titles and has been ranked as high as #7 in the nation. Dozens of players under his tutelage have gone on to play NCAA Division 1 soccer.
